Social Fabric: Portraits of Kilkenny Women, a project initiated by the women of Open Circle Arts, Kilkenny, Ireland. They invited women from throughout Kilkenny to join them in the creation of a collaborative embroidered artwork facilitated by textile artist Dee Harte. Due to great demand Social Fabric became an ongoing community project with thanks to Kilkenny Arts Office, The Department of Community and Culture (Kilkenny County Council) and International Women’s Day. The project was both collaborative and distinctly individual and resulted in a collection of 80 portraits. The workshops create a space in the lives of all who took part to meet new people, chat, laugh, debate and create.
What participants said

It is addictive and so enjoyable

a most enjoyable experience doing something I never imagined I would be able to do

the layout was very user friendly and good for easy camaraderie with new friends

embroidery was something I have never tried before (and never imagined I would!) so being introduced to something new, having guidance and support; coming together with other women; working toward a collaborative piece are among the enjoyable aspects
