As part of AKA Open Circle Arts 2016 members will be exhibiting a selection of the work they have created over the first six months of the project. The exhibition will run from 6th to the 14th August at the Open Circle House, High Hayes, Johns Green. The members have been making and creating weekly since January with our tutors Caroline Schofield, Steven Aylin and Saturio Alonso. The exhibition will include textiles, drawings and constructed masks based on transformation.
Open Circle Arts is a community arts project providing social spaces for learning and creating. Our mission is to inspire interest and maximum participation in the arts for Kilkenny women. We are committed to offering programs that are characterised by quality arts learning experiences and inspiring arts participatory engagements.
The exhibition will be launched on 6th August at 12pm. And will be opened to the public from the 6th – 14th August, 12-5pm daily.
Open Circle Arts is a key program of Kilkenny County Council, Arts Office and is supported by Carlow/Kilkenny ETB and the Arts Council.
A group of textile’ artists in the making’ visited the Ros Tapestry in New Ross as part of the Fetac Textile course they are currently completing.A tour of the exhibition was given to the group,explaining the background, history, patronage, techniques etc of the project.It was very comprehensive and interesting.Upstairs the experienced and talented stitchers were working on two panels and kindly allowed us to make our mark on history by doing a few stitches ourselves! Open Circle Community Arts is managed and supported by Kilkenny County Council Arts Office and was founded in 2013. It is a small community art organisation based in Kilkenny City, which seeks to make the arts available and accessible to women of all ages and from all walks of life. The heart of the project is our community art space the Open Circle Art House.
The Open Circle Art House is a social space for learning and creating communally. It aims to provide an outlet for creative community involvement, while seeking to produce quality arts learning experiences and inspiring arts engagements.
