Weaving at Rothe House 2021

This series of 4 workshops in October 2021 was an introduction to weaving expertly guided by artist Sandra McAlister. Rothe House and Gardens provided a wonderful backdrop to the creative process which began with a couple of hours exploring colour and texture in the gardens. We took advantage of the fine weather to work outside in the gardens gathering some plant material and making drawings and colour studies to develop designs for the weaving.

The following 3 weeks were spent deciding on colours, and learning how to set up a frame loom ready to begin weaving. While making their pieces the participants experimented with different weaving patterns and learned how to finish off and remove the piece from the loom.
